I read a new article indicating that the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is not going to be $1 trillion as some predicted.
"Iraq, Afghan wars will cost $4 trillion to $6 trillion, Harvard study says taking into account the medical care of wounded veterans and expensive repairs to a force depleted by more than a decade of fighting, according to a new study by a Harvard researcher." (By Ernesto Londono in the Washington Post, March 13)
We hear news stories of the terrible backlog of veterans trying to get medical treatment from the VA. Could a significant reason for that be that they don't have sufficient monetary and medical resources to treat the many thousands of wounded veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts? How much of our deficit and economic problems have been caused by these disastrous wars?
I'm sick of hearing how President Obama and the Democrats spend too much money. How would an extra $4 trillion to $6 trillion in the federal government's pocket have alleviated the budget and deficit problems we now have?
Let's ask George W. Bush and Dick Cheney that question.
