Keith Rocco returned to Victory Lane at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night, capturing the 35-lap SK Modified feature as part of a seven-division NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program on Memorial Day weekend.
Rocco won his first SK Modified race at the Speedbowl since May 3, working his way through the field and moving up to second behind Shawn Thibeault by lap 13 when the race's second caution flag came out. Rocco restarted outside of Thibeault and stayed even for two laps when two cars made contact.
That's when Rocco took the lead and survived three late race restarts to claim his third win of the season. Ed Puleo wound up second and Rob Janovic Jr. third.
In other NASCAR action, Vin Esposito won the 30-lap Late Model feature, Franklin's Josh Galvin won again in the 25-lap Street Stock race and Garrett Denton captured the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.
The Wild 'n Wacky Wednesday racing divisions also made a Saturday night appearance with Dave Yardley winning the Super X-Car race, New London's Zac Thomas the X-Car feature and Dylan Izzo the Legends Car feature.
Esposito bolted out to the race lead at the drop of the green flag from his pole starting position. Rocco moved to second position on lap-13 but could not run down Esposito and had to settle for second.
Denton landed in Victory Lane for the first time this season. Following the only caution flag on lap 9, Denton remained patient behind a battle between Ian Brew and Groton's Ray Christian, who was seeking his second consecutive win.
Denton eventually got past the inside of both to take the lead on lap 14 and cruised the rest of the way. Lisbon's Ken Cassidy Jr. came on strong to wind up second.
Galvin won for the fourth consecutive time in the Street Stocks and fifth time in the past six races. He took the lead from Al Stone on lap-14 with a crossover move exiting turn two. Once in front, he pulled away and survived one caution flag with 10 laps remaining.
