Norwich - Police on Tuesday arrested a 47-year-old Norwich man on heroin possession and sales charges.
Detectives and patrol officers, with the assistance of the community policing unit, executed a narcotic-related search and seizure warrant Tuesday at 486 E. Main St., Apt. 2, the home of Tyrone McKelvey.
Police said McKelvey was the target of a months-long investigation into heroin trafficking in the Norwich and surrounding areas. Police seized a small amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia that police said was indicative of a heroin trafficking operation and about $200 in cash.
McKelvey was charged with sale of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and destruction of evidence.
Held in lieu of a $200,000 bond, McKelvey is due to appear Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court. McKelvey was also arrested on a violation of probation warrant and was held in lieu of an additional $20,000 bond.
