Groton — Town police have charged a local man with felony assault in connection with a stabbing Friday that sent one man to the hospital with multiple stab wounds to his back.

Robert Benfatto, 20, of 5 Waco Court was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident that occurred in the Midway Oval section of town.

Police said they were informed at 2 p.m. Friday that a 46-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds was being treated in the emergency department at Pequot Health Center. An investigation revealed that the unidentified victim was attacked in the area of Midway Oval and Waco Court.

Police said the wounds were not life-threatening and the attack was not random. The victim was targeted, police said.

Area farmer's markets are starting to open up. Do you shop for seasonal goods locally?
Yes. No farms, no food, right?
No. Supermarket prices fit my budget better.
Sometimes, but I also grow my own veggies.
If I can get to one, I'll try and support it, but I find most markets are only open while I'm at work.
