Hartford official says deal in place to move team

Hartford (AP) — New Britain Rock Cats General Manager Tim Restall confirms he'll be in Hartford Wednesday for news conference with the capital city's mayor.

Mayor Pedro Segarra says the news conference will include a "major sports announcement."

Hartford Councilman Ken Kennedy tells WVIT-TV the council was briefed Tuesday on a deal that would move the Double-A baseball team about 18 miles north Hartford's north end.

He says the deal includes a 25-year lease, contingent on the city building a stadium for the club.

New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart says Restall told her Monday that he knew nothing about plans to move the team. But she tweeted Wednesday that the city was "not going down without a fight." The team's lease in New Britain runs out after the 2015 season.

New Britain has had a minor league baseball team since 1983.
