New London — A Southeast Area Transit bus spilled a puddle of diesel on Water Street and left a trail of the fuel across several others roadways Thursday, prompting a response by city firefighters and public works crews.

Reported at about 6 p.m. the SEAT bus remained parked with a broken fuel line near the Greyhound bus station on Water Street where the puddle of fuel collected near the curb.

Firefighters were called in to help manage the leaked fuel while city crews spread sand over areas where the bus had leaked onto State, Huntington and Water streets. Firefighters said it did not appear any of the fuel made its way into storm drains.

The fire department notified the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection about the incident.
