Stonington – Police arrested a Griswold man Thursday on charges connected to a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Pawcatuck man.
The accident happened just after 5 a.m. on April 25 on Route 2 near the intersection with Route 78 in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington. Grover Moree, 51, of Robinson Street, Pawcatuck, was hit by a vehicle that did not stop. Moree was taken by Lifestar helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said at the time that a gray car had been seen fleeing the scene.
On Thursday, police said an investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Aaron J. Caswell, 30, of 23 S. Main St., Griswold. Caswell was charged by warrant with evading responsibility, misconduct with a motor vehicle, second-degree false statement and tempering with a witness.
Held in lieu of a $100,000 court set bond, Caswell is scheduled to appear Friday in New London Superior Court.
