Old Saybrook — Police this morning arrested two Old Saybrook men who they say assaulted and attempted to rob a man of his firearms.

Joshua Griswold, 18, of 86 Mill Rock Road East and Michael Lawhorn, 23, of 1500 Boston Post Road, Room 9, each were charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, criminal attempt to steal a firearm, second-degree strangulation and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said the assault was reported to themat 1:40 a.m. They said the 50-year-old victim said the pair attempted to steal his firearms and, when he refused to turn them over, they attacked him.

The victim was seriously injured and was taken to Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook.

After developing information on the suspects, police arrested Griswold and Lawhorn. Both are being held on a $100,000 bond, pending their arraignments Friday in Middlesex Superior Court.

What are your feelings about the swap of Taliban detainees for Army Sgt. Bergdahl?
It was the right thing to do. No soldier should be left behind. Period.
I thought our policy was to not negotiate with terrorist groups.
I initially supported the swap, but as more details have become available, I am not so sure now.
Absolutely not worth it, especially if the reports are true that soldiers died looking for Sergeant Bergdahl after senior American military officials say he wandered off his base.
