New London - Police are investigating the assault of a 21-year-old man they found in an unresponsive state Thursday afternoon at a West Coit Street residence.

The victim, who is from Waterford, had been reported missing by his parents, who knew their son would be at the West Coit Street address, according to Deputy Chief Peter Reichard. Officers from New London and Waterford who went to the home at 5:43 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on the man found him in an unresponsive state with contusions about the body and face. City firefighters and paramedics treated him at the scene and transported him to the hospital for treatment.

His condition was not immediately available.

The assault was not believed to have taken place at the West Coit Street residence where the victim was located, according to Reichard. The detective bureau is investigating and has asked anyone with information to call them at (860) 447-1481.

What are your feelings about the swap of Taliban detainees for Army Sgt. Bergdahl?
It was the right thing to do. No soldier should be left behind. Period.
I thought our policy was to not negotiate with terrorist groups.
I initially supported the swap, but as more details have become available, I am not so sure now.
Absolutely not worth it, especially if the reports are true that soldiers died looking for Sergeant Bergdahl after senior American military officials say he wandered off his base.
