East Lyme — State police are investigating the armed robbery early Saturday night of the Whimsical Consignment Shop at 18 Pennsylvania Ave.

State police said a man entered the store, displayed a knife and demanded money from the store clerk. The man received an undisclosed amount of cash, walked out of the store and was later seen leaving the area on a motorcycle.

State police responded at 6:09 p.m. and searched the area. Detectives gathered physical and forensic evidence.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a bright blue hooded sweatshirt, shorts and a dark colored bandanna over his face.

State Police ask anyone who was in the area and observed anything to call them at 860-848-6532. All calls will be kept confidential.

What are your feelings about the swap of Taliban detainees for Army Sgt. Bergdahl?
It was the right thing to do. No soldier should be left behind. Period.
I thought our policy was to not negotiate with terrorist groups.
I initially supported the swap, but as more details have become available, I am not so sure now.
Absolutely not worth it, especially if the reports are true that soldiers died looking for Sergeant Bergdahl after senior American military officials say he wandered off his base.
