Press Release from the Old Saybrook Police Department

Multiple Vehicles Broken into Overnight

The Old Saybrook Police Department of Police Service responded to a report of a vehicle being broken into over night. During the subsequent investigation and neighborhood canvas police determined 18 vehicles from 11 different locations were entered. All of the vehicles that were entered were left unlocked by the owners. Items of value were stolen from at least two vehicles. Most of the vehicles that were entered had nothing evident missing.

The area of town affected was the Floral Park neighborhood including Channelside Drive, Rocky Point Road, Riverside Avenue, and Sunrise Avenue.

It is important to note that no houses were burglarized, only vehicles.

Vehicle owners are asked to take basic safety precautions. They should secure vehicles in a garage if possible or make sure the doors are locked. Don’t leave valuables or the keys in the vehicle. Leave the vehicle in a well lit area or use lights with a motion detection device. People should talk to their neighbors and watch out for each other. As always “if you see something, say something”, people should contact police if they see or suspect anything suspicious.

Old Saybrook Police continue to investigate three more incidents one in May in which over 30 vehicles were entered in the Maple Ave., Knollwood, Fenwood area of town, one in February where multiple vehicles were entered in the North Cove area of town and one in which a weapon was stolen from the vehicle.

If anyone has any information they should contact Detective Perrotti at 860-395-3142
