Norwich - As an introduction to the 2014 rowing season, the Chelsea Boat Club will host an open house at the Marina at American Wharf from 10 a.m. to noon on June 28.
Some racing and recreational boats will be on display and boat club members will be available to answer questions. The club is interested in attracting both experienced rowers and those interested in learning to row.
The club also is searching for volunteer coaches for the spring high school program.
Instruction will take place twice weekly during scheduled adult evening rows and by one-on-one lessons by appointment. Rowers have access to eight Vespoli four-oared racing shells, three recreational single sculls and a recreational double scull. Experienced and qualified novice adult rowers are encouraged to organize their own crews to row at any time on their own schedule.
Crews are also encouraged to race at local regattas. The club has access to a modern boat trailer and pickup truck to facilitate travel to regattas. The club competes regularly at the Coastweeks Regatta in Mystic each September and other nearby races.
Interested parties should call Pat Fuery at (860) 887-6758 for information.
