Stonington - Joanna Douglas, the senior fashion and beauty editor for Yahoo! Shine, a website devoted to women, was the guest speaker at Pine Point School's Commencement ceremony on June 7.
Douglas, a 1996 Pine Point graduate, is the third graduate in a row to speak at the school's commencement.
"Pine Point taught me that being courageous is rewarded. There's no reason to fear a wrong answer or a mistake, because with experience comes wisdom. Expressing yourself can be frightening, but take ownership of your ideas and speak with conviction. Being unique and authentic will make others gravitate toward you," she said during her speech.
Prior to joining Yahoo! Shine, the New York City resident worked at magazines such as Seventeen, Jane, New York, W, and ELLEgirl.
She has appeared on ABC, CBS, and Fox, and reported on topics such as race relations, body image, bullying, eating disorders and New York Fashion Week.
