Lecture on Beekman exhibition Wednesday at Lyman Allyn

New London — Barbara Zabel, Connecticut College professor emeritus, will give a talk on "Painting Nature: The Intimate Sublime of Jan Beekman" at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum.

The work of Beekman, who lives in Preston, is featured in a new exhibition at the Lyman Allyn. This lecture will place his paintings in the long tradition of the "intimate" Sublime in American landscape painting, a sensibility also found in artists of the Hudson River School.
