Janzen qualifies for Travelers Championship

Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen, less than two months shy of his 50th birthday, earned one of four qualifying spots for this week's Traveleers Championship during a special qualifier on Monday at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme.

Janzen, who won his majors in 1993 and 1998, fired a five-under-par 66, including birdies on four of the last five holes. Also earning a trip to the Travelers, which begins Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, were Jason Allred of Scottdale, Ariz., Marc Turnesa of Jupiter, Fla., and Sebastian Saavedra of Olavarria, Fla. Allred and Turnesa each shot four-under 67s while Saavedra shot a 68 and won a 12-hole playoff against Mike Ballo Jr. of Stamford, Joe Ogilvie of Austin, Texas, and Richard Lamb of Brandenton, Fla., with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Adam Rainaud, an assistant pro at Black Hall, previously earned the Connecticut Section PGA's exemption in May by winning the PGA Spring Stroke Play Championship.
