We're looking for a few great residents and we're asking for you to help us. Nominations for the 2014 Beacon Awards are now underway.
When the Shore Publishing opened nominations for the Beacon Awards last year to recognize 15 of the region's most dedicated residents, we knew we would be flooded with many excellent candidates for the inaugural event. We were right.
The challenge for us was finding a way to adequately honor these often unsung (and always humble) award recipients. Our red-carpet-style gala at Water's Edge Resort in Westbrook turned out to be a good call.
"Last year's event was an inspiration to all who attended," said Publisher Lisa Miksis. "From the humble acceptance by each of the winners to the powerful video and heartfelt thank-you notes after the event, the Beacon Awards's mission was felt by all. We have eagerly been awaiting the return of the awards all year long, and the excitement has only continued to build as we move into our second of what we hope to be many Beacon Awards events."
The Beacon Awards continue to be a way for Shore Publishing to recognize what makes this region so special by honoring a few of the outstanding individuals who selflessly step up to help fulfill the shoreline community's promise as a place of wellbeing, opportunity, and safety for all.
"This year we are looking forward to admitting another 15 incredible individuals into the Beacon Awards Hall of Fame, and each year as we add another 15, we will continue to spread the message that community, family, and friends are the key to a life of happiness," Miksis said.
The next step comes from the public: We're accepting nominations of outstanding individuals who've made a positive impact on the community. Nominating someone is easy-we're taking nominations through Friday, July 18 online, by email, and postal mail. Here's what we're looking for: the recipient's name, the organization(s) through which he or she helps the community, length of service, what that service has meant to you and the community, and your contact information.
Submit nominations online at www.beaconawardsct.com, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or by mail to Shore Publishing, P.O. Box 1010, Madison, CT 06443. This year's awards will be given at an October gala at Water's Edge Resort.
