Groton's Bruce Thomas Jr. picked up his second Late Model win of the season when he won the 30-lap feature at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night.
The Speedbowl's four main NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions were contested before the Whelen Modified Tour's Mr. Rooter 161 feature, which finished too late for this edition. Thomas won an exciting Late Model feature by winning the race on the final lap. Vin Esposito led during a caution-free first 25 laps, but Keith Rocco beat him on a lap 26 restart for the lap. Esposito came back and got into Rocco to retake the lead coming to the white flag, but when Rocco retaliated in turns one and two, Thomas passed on the inside of both took the checkered flag.
Puleo began the SK Modified feature second, but took the lead on a restart in lap 3 and held off veterans Ted Christopher and Rocco.
McNeil took the Street Stock lead on a lap 11 caution and never trailed again while Christian battled Garrett Denton and Lisbon's Ken Cassidy Jr. over the final laps in a three-car race for Mini Stock feature before Christian rallied from the bottom on the final lap to win the race.
