April ’14 Youth of Month: Gabi Dess

The Exchange Club of Madison honored Gabi Dess, the daughter of Kathleen and Robert Dess, with the David Bell Scholarship Award for its April 2014 Youth of the Month Award. The Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) senior was nominated by the DHHS faculty and completed a very competitive application that included 1) an essay entitled "Parading the Spirit of Community Service with Passion and Commitment"; 2) performing outstanding DHHS and community activities; 3) earning an excellent grade point average; and 4) demonstrating personal achievements and earning awards.

David Bell, chairman of the Youth of the Month and Year programs, presented Dess with a $200 award and a commemorative Madison Exchange Club plaque. Dess is an honors student, Class Council representative, and part of the Student Leadership Team.

Also, Dess is president of Rotary Interact Club, yearbook editor, captain of the cross-country team, and a member of the outdoor track team, Prospectives Group, Life, Safe Rides, Concert Choir, Reach Out/Peer Mentoring, Peer Advocates, and Missoula Children's Theatre. She attended American Legion Girls State. Dess was also selected as recipient of the Lions Club Miss Be Thankful You Can See Award, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, PTO English Award, and Excellence in History and Gym Awards.

Dess has been accepted to Providence College, the University of Vermont, and Dickinson College.
