Norwich - Norwich Public Utilities is repeating a warning for customers to be aware of a phone scam from callers claiming to represent the utility or its collection agency, asking for payment in order to avoid utility service termination.

Customers receiving phone calls from anyone claiming to represent NPU should always ask for the caller’s name and a phone number to call back and verify the call is legitimate, especially if the caller is requesting any form of payment. Do not provide any financial information, including credit card numbers, or send any payment by mail to someone claiming to be a utility employee without first verifying the call.

NPU’s customer service center can be reached at (860) 887-2555 or via email at communitymatters@npumail.com.

Anyone who believes they have been victims of this scam should report it immediately to their banks or financial institutions and to Norwich Police at (860) 886-5561.
