Mystic Middle principal moving to Deans Mill

Stonington — Superintendent of Schools Van Riley announced Friday that Mystic Middle School Principal Jennifer McCurdy will become the principal of Deans Mill School. McCurdy will replace Principal Doug Hammel, who announced earlier this week that he is leaving to take a job as the principal of Baldwin Middle School in Guilford. He begins that position in August.

In his announcement, Riley said that McCurdy “has done an outstanding job as principal of Mystic Middle School and is looking forward to returning to the elementary level.”

He said that when Hammel announced he was leaving, McCurdy “enthusiastically requested this move.”

McCurdy has been at the middle school since August 2011. Before that, she served as assistant principal, director of guidance and guidance counselor at the high school.

Earlier, McCurdy taught first and second grade at Deans Mill, and Riley said she “has always wanted the opportunity to serve as an elementary principal.” He said McCurdy will work on the transition to fill the principal’s position at Mystic Middle School.
