Mezzo-soprano Cecile Thompson will present a voice recital, "Songs My Mother Taught Me," at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mystic Arts Center, 9 Water St., Mystic.
Pianist Jose Garcia-Leon will accompany Thompson, and the program will include two arias from "Carmen," along with three Puccini arias, Dvorak's "Songs My Mother Taught Me," and a trio of Broadway songs, including "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" from "Showboat."
Thompson is dedicating the recital to the memory of her mother, Jacqueline Thompson, who died in 1999. She played guitar and piano, and she taught all of her children music. Sunday's concert opens with some Spanish songs, since Jacqueline Thompson loved the music of Spain and brought her daughters to study flamenco and classical Spanish dance. Admission to the recital is free.
