Ryan Waterman outdueled Uncasville's Phil Evans to win a thrilling 25-lap Street Stock feature race at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night.
Other winners in the weekly Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series were Keith Rocco in the SK Modified feature, Corey Barry in the SK Light Modified race, Mike Christopher Jr. in the Legend Cars feature and Ledyard's Corey Coates in the visiting New England Truck Series race.
The Late Model and Mini Stock features finished too late for this edition.
Scott Sundeen led the caution-free Street Stock feature early before Evans and Waterman both passed Sundeen from the inside on lap 6. Waterman tailed Evans until making a move with six laps remaining. The two raced side-by-side the rest of the way with Waterman coming out on top in thrilling fashion. Evans settled for second and Sundeen wound up third.
Barry won for the fourth time on the year in the 25-lap SK Light Modified race as did Christopher in the 25-lap Legend Cars feature (his ninth win overall this season). In the 25-lap Truck Series race, Coates took the lead on lap 8, ironically from his father Allen, who led until a broken driveshaft sidelined him.
The Speedbowl returns to action on Wednesday with its weekly Wild 'n Wacky Wednesday racing card that will include a fireworks display at the conclusion of racing. Children ages 14-under will receive free grandstand admission if accompanied by an adult. Next Saturday, the Mid-Season 300 hits the Speedbowl, highlighted by a 100-lap SK Modified feature.
