ConnSun fans, remember last summer when El Sol had about 24 players miss about 148 games? Well, Chicago has inherited that star-crossed burden this season.
Sky point guard Courtney Vandersloot will miss 6-to-10 weeks with a sprain in her left knee. She injured the medial collateral ligament in the final seconds of Chicago’s win over New York on Friday night when she ran into a hard screen by Plenette Pierson with six seconds left in the game.
Chicago is also without forward Elena Delle Donne, who is out indefinitely while dealing with Lyme disease flare up.
Starting center Sylvia Fowles missed the first 13 games of this season after having arthroscopic surgery to repair a hip injury.
Starting guard Epiphanny Prince took the first three games of the season off to rest after playing overseas this winter.
The Sky got off to a 4-0 start as forward Jessica Breland and Delle Donne offset the absences of Fowles and Prince.
Chicago has since lost eight of its last 10. Its 5-4 with Delle Donne.
Remarkably, the Sky (7-8) are still in third place in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta (11-4) is the only team in the division with a winning record. Phoenix (11-3) and Minnesota (12-5) are the only other teams in The W over .500.
Math is daffy.
Thanks for reading. More whenever.
Vaya con dios.
