Lieutenant governor candidate and Groton Town Councilor Heather Bond Somers was notified Thursday that she has been approved for public campaign financing.

Under the state's campaign finance laws, Somers needed to raise $75,000 in small donations of $100 or less to qualify for about $406,000 in public campaign financing. She submitted paperwork for $80,000, to have a buffer in case some amounts were disqualified, she said.

The state Elections Enforcement Commission voted Wednesday to award her the grant for $406,275 as a candidate for lieutenant governor in a primary.

“It’s huge,” Somers said Thursday. “It’s big, it’s a huge feat. I’m really excited that we made it through and we’re ready to hit the ground running.”

Did the Supreme Court make the right call in its 5-4 Hobby Lobby ruling?
Yes, the court was right. Forcing the owners to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives they considered immoral violated their religious rights.
No, this was a terrible ruling. Women employees shouldn't be denied coverage for contraceptives because they happen to work for people who object to them.
I'm not sure how I feel. Both sides in the case make good points.
