Local roundup: Pankake leads Tigers to win over Spinners

Lowell, Mass. - Joseph Pankake had three hits, including a double, with three RBI and a run as the Connecticut Tigers downed the Lowell Spinners 9-4 Wednesday night in a New York-Penn League game at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.

Garrett Mattlage had two hits and four runs for Connecticut (9-10) and Steven Fuentes went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Jordan Betts had two hits and scored for the Spinners (10-9) and Franklin Guzman doubled and scored twice.

Zone VI Legion

• Matt Przybysz pitched a three-hitter as Niantic beat Danielson 5-0. Ryan Nickerson had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Niantic and Trent Garbati added an RBI double. Also, Austin Toback had two hits, including a double, and Bill Buscetto doubled.

• Mike Nossek pitched a one-hitter with two strikeouts and Jordan Kowalski had three hits, including a three-run home run, as Ledyard-Pawcatuck beat Willimantic 12-2. Troy Stefanski had three hits, including a double, for Ledyard-Pawcatuck.

• Pitcher Kyle McComic earned the victory and Jesse Coates doubled as Waterford beat Norwich 2-1.

SEC Babe Ruth 16-18

• Andrew August allowed two hits and over three innings and Alek Gagnon had a double as Ledyard beat Tri-County-Salem 6-4. Tyler Wheatly went 2-for-3 for Tri-County-Salem.

District 6 Babe Ruth (14)

• Mike Burrows had three hits and pitched the final inning in relief as Waterford beat Groton 5-3. Quinn Ryan pitched six innings for Waterford and Jason Page had two hits, including a triple. Luis Batista and Isaac Cuascut each had two hits for Groton.

District 6 Babe Ruth (13)

• Ed Kaftan, Blake Bragaw and Jacob Diaz combined to pitch East Lyme past New London 10-0 in the semifinals of the District 6 tournament. Matt Malcom doubled twice for East Lyme, which will play Waterford in today's final at 5:30 p.m. in Waterford.

• Winning pitcher Bobby Silva allowed just one run over five innings as Waterford beat Tri-County 9-1 in a semifinal game. Max Adams had two hits and two RBI for Waterford and Dylan Bosco tripled.

District 10 baseball (11-12)

• Bryce Sullivan went 3-for-3, including two home runs, with four RBI as Montville beat Lyme-Old Lyme 9-2. Zach Southard pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts for Montville. Parker Stone had two hits for Lyme-Old Lyme.

• Noah Perry and Sophie Dubreuil each had a double, a triple and two RBI as East Lyme beat East Haddam 13-2 in four innings. Chris Malcom had two hits and two RBI, Nathan Diaz had a double and two runs, and Joey Grubb had three hits, including a double and triple, for East Lyme. Brendan Dalton had two hits for East Haddam.

District 10 baseball (10-11)

• Owen Robbins had three hits, including a triple, with three runs and two RBI as East Lyme beat New London on Tuesday night, 13-9. Nolan Connolly had two hits, including a double, with three runs and Jamie Westcott had a double and two RBI. Carter Chambers also tripled. Alej Santiago had a single, two RBI and a run, Chris Watrous had a single and an RBI and Edgar Matco and Derek Nunez both singled and scored for New London.

Division 3 softball (11-12)

• Allison Georgetti struck out eight over four innings and Nora Ryan added three hits, including a double, with four RBI as Mystic beat Glastonbury 24-1 in the opening game of the Division 3 state tournament. Olivia Carney had three hits and four RBI for Mystic. Shannon Kiniry doubled for Glastonbury.

District 10 softball (9-10)

• Fiona Taber pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts and had three hits and four RBI as Mystic beat Montville 9-5. Maddie Southers had two hits for Mystic and Allie Cabrel and Riley Nystrom each singled. Avery Holzworth had two hits for Montville.

• Kassidy Standish allowed two hits over five innings as Lyme-Old Lyme beat East Lyme 10-0. Paige Kolesnik had two hits and two RBI for Lyme-Old Lyme and Tessa St. Germain went 3-for-4. Cayden Beers singled and had two putouts at third base for East Lyme.

• Samantha Money had two hits, three runs and pitched a one-hitter as Ledyard beat New London on Tuesday, 11-1, to clinch first place in Pool B. Aaliyah Amidon had two runs and two RBI, Sara Rivers scored three times and Sarah Cox had a two-run single for Ledyard. Cassandra Roman had the only hit for New London, which clinched second place in the pool. Lindsay Clement also played well defensively at third base.
