Ledyard — Police responded Monday morning to the Ledyard Center School after they received a report of an older man near the gymnasium of the Ledyard Center School while the Parks & Recreation Department held its Summer Playground program.

Police said at around 10:50 a.m. the older man told staff that he used to work at the school as a custodian and began to look around. Police said the children were inside the school at the time.

The man was told to leave by staff, and he left immediately. As part of the protocol the campers were secured by playground staff and the Ledyard Police Department was called.

The investigation determined that the individual did not approach or attempt to contact any of the campers in the brief time he was at the school. After a short time, the campers were able to continue with their activities, police said.
