Norwich — Two Uncasville residents were arrested Thursday evening after allegedly advertising heroin for sale on Craigslist, city police said.

After being tipped off by an anonymous Norwich citizen to a Craigslist post offering heroin for sale, police officers Thursday evening contacted the seller and agreed to meet in the Norwichtown area to execute a drug transaction.

Officers conducted surveillance in the area and identified the alleged seller and her boyfriend, both of whom were found to have heroin in their possession and arrested.

Alexis D. Chidester, 18, and Thomas Birkbeck Jr., 28, both of 90 Gay Hill Road, Uncasville, were charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to sell.

Officers seized “several hundred dollars worth of heroin packaged for street sales,” Norwich police said in a statement.

Chidester and Birkbeck were each released on $25,000 non-surety bonds and are due in Norwich Superior Court on July 24.
