A recent letter, "Magnet schools are a sound investment," (July 9), questioned the value of the International Baccalaureate program at Fitch High School.
As the grandparent of a 2014 graduate, I would ask the writer to spend time with an IB student before condemning the program. I guarantee that you will be impressed with the quality of their education.
Our students share a curriculum with students across the globe. They must show proficiency in a foreign language and compete on exams given internationally to secure a diploma. Among the schools that our graduates are headed to this year are Yale, Princeton, The United States Coast Guard Academy, Boston University, New York University and Tulane.
The quality of a Fitch/IB education is being recognized across the country. It would be a shame not to appreciate it locally.
