Groton — Midway Oval in the area of Concord Court reopened to two-way traffic Friday afternoon following repairs to the road caused by a water main break, which briefly disrupted service to 61 customers early that morning.
Frank Winkler, a spokesman for Groton Utilities, said the break was reported at 3:15 a.m. and water service was restored at 7 a.m. He also said five fire hydrants were affected.
He said the 8-inch pipe was damaged by routine aging. Water pressure blew a small hole in the pipe, causing a “geyser effect.” The water blew asphalt and damaged the windows of two adjacent cars.
Winkler said the utility company would repair the car damage.
