Passing the torch at Salem library

I would like to commend you for the recent article, "New head librarian's arrival among changes at Salem library," (July 12).

As a part-time staff member there, I can tell you that we are looking forward to meeting Rachel Gaither and working with her to continue providing the best service possible to the Salem community and beyond. I am writing because I felt the article did not do justice to the excellent performance of our prior director Jackie Hemond.

Jackie left the Salem Library to pursue another position, not because a patron survey indicated we needed a change in leadership. For the years that I worked with her, I can tell you that Jackie put her heart and soul into serving the people of Salem. Her top priority was making sure our patrons were satisfied and well served.

Secondly, she was an outstanding employer who treated her staff fairly. Jackie has a generous and kind spirit and it was with heavy hearts that we bid her farewell. As I wish Jackie all the best in her future endeavors, I am also excited about what the future will bring with the new leadership at the Salem Free Public Library.
