Just a quick note from Monday’s practice — Kelsey Griffin was injured and had to be helped off the court. She was taken to a doctor and El Sol hasn't updated her condition.

We’ll let you know when we know.

Griffin has averaged 20.5 minutes, 5.5 rebounds, and countless deflections and charges. She started in place of Kelsey Bone the last two games as Connecticut coach Anne Donovan shook up the lineup.

"We need energy,” Donovan said. “We're at our best when we're playing scrappy, high energy, play-off-of-each-other basketball, and I just felt like we get that from Kelsey Griffin. She is the best at that. Other players can feed off her energy defensively.

“I felt like I needed to make the change just to start with more energy. So this team and our young players realize how important that energy and that scrappiness is to our wins. Those six wins (June’s six-month winning streak) happened because we were scrappy, because we outhustled people, and we lost a sense of that. Putting Kelsey back into the lineup made everyone realize how valuable that is."

The Sun (10-14) plays at Washington on Wednesday morning.

Connecticut Sun players are forbidden from gambling at Mohegan Sun.

That’s just fine with Bone.

Bone and teammates Danielle McCray and Renee Montgomery took a detour home from last week’s West Coast trip and stopped off in Las Vegas during the All-Star break.

Bone enjoyed the trip, but quickly learned that gambling isn’t her thing.

“I’ve only been legal for about a year-and-a-half, so this was my first time in Vegas where I could do everything possible,” Bone said. “I lost some money, had a good time with some friends, and kind of got a little break to recharge the batteries.

“I lost $200 on slot machines. It was the worst time I’ve ever had in my life, and I will never. Gamble. Again. It’s boring, and I don’t have the attention span for it. I understand that’s how people make their money around here, but, man, that is one boring thing.”

Bone didn’t just lose on any slots — she lost on penny slots (and craps).

“I just sat there and I played about 15 machines,” Bone said. “Just terrible. So, yeah, there’s a first and last time for everything, and that was definitely the first and last time for that.”
