Three charged in overnight burglaries in Mystic

Groton — Town police early this morning arrested three people who they say broke into cars in the area of Pequot Avenue in the Mystic section of town.

Police said at about 2 a.m. they responded to the area and immediately apprehended one suspect. Police along with a state police K-9 searched the area and arrested two more suspects.

Police said a large amount of stolen property was recovered at the scene, indicating that several cars were involved.

As a result, Jeffrey Barnas, 18, of 23 Cross St., Westerly, was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, larceny by possession, simple trespass and possession of narcotics.

Police also charged a 16-year-old and 17-year-old in connection with the burglaries. They were charged with interfering with police, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, larceny by possession and simple trespass. Their identities were not released because they are minors.

Police are asking residents who live in the area of Pequot Avenue to check their vehicles to determine if anything was stolen. They are asked to call Officer Kyle LoPriore at (860) 441-6712 with any information they have on this case.
