Mystic - The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has announced the winners of a contest to name three of its new resident birds.
The center had posted photos of the birds on its
Facebook page, and received more than 35 suggested names for each bird.
Two of the three winners met the birds on July 22.
Amanda Mead of Pawcatuck submitted the winning name for the barred owl, who is now called Ozzy.
Denise Davies of New London had the winning name for the broadwing hawk, who is now called Zelda and Christina Johnson of Griswold submitted the winning name for the Eastern screech owl, who is now called Milo.
Although Zelda recovered from a severe shoulder injury, she could not be released because it impaired her flying ability.
Ozzy has an eye injury and Milo came from a rescue group that could no longer house it.
