Ledyard — Gales Ferry firefighters extinguished a fire Tuesday in the bedroom of a single-family home at 9 Laurel Leaf Drive that caused smoke and heat damage throughout the home, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 6:41 p.m. and two people were home. They were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but refused any further medical treatment, said Gales Ferry Assistant Chief Jeff Erhart.

It remained unclear late Tuesday if the residents would be able to stay at the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the town fire marshal’s office.

Gales Ferry was joined at the scene by firefighters from the Ledyard Fire Department, along with Ledyard police, Ledyard Ambulance and paramedics from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Yes. I believe Bonds, Clemens and McGwire deserve their place in the Hall of Fame.
No. I think it sends a rule-breaking message to current players and Little Leaguers.

According to La Russa, the asterisk would indicate: 'Look, we have some questions.' What?
