Groton – Town police are investigating the theft of a $19,000 diamond ring from the N.L. Shaw & Company jewelry store earlier this week and are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.
At about 4 p.m. Tuesday, police said a man entered the store at 50 W. Main St., Mystic, and asked to see some jewelry.
At one point while the employees were busy, police said the man reached over the glass case and took a diamond ring valued at more than $19,000. The male is described as a male who looks Middle-Eastern and in his mid-30s, wearing a green short-sleeve button-down shirt and jeans.
Police said the man may have been working with a woman described as a tall Asian Pacific woman wearing a red jacket, white shirt and jeans. The woman attempted to sell a valuable ring and a sizable amount of gold to the jeweler. When denied, the female left the store, police said.
Police have released surveillance footage of the two people. Police ask that anyone with information about the incident or anyone who recognizes the two people to contact Groton Town Police Department at (860) 441-6712
