Essex — State troopers arrested a suspected bank robber and recovered currency allegedly stolen from a Bank of America Saturday morning.

Joshua Green, 33, of 21 Bayview Road, Niantic, was charged with first-degree larceny, third-degree robbery and driving without a license. He is due in Middletown Superior Court on Monday.

State police in Westbrook received a call at around 10 a.m. about a robbery in progress at the Bank of America at 125 Westbrook Road. The suspect was reportedly driving a Subaru station wagon northbound on Route 153.

Essex Resident State Trooper David Tretter, who at the time was off-duty, and Trooper James Matlock apprehended Green near the intersection with Route 9.

Detectives from the State Police Central District Major Crime Unit assisted in processing the crime scene for the investigation.
