New Haven (AP) — New Haven police say a 71-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault in connection with the weekend shooting of his neighbor.

Police said they got a call Sunday morning from Anthony Anamasi, who reported he had shot someone who had tried to attack him with a knife. Anamasi said he had gone back to his apartment to wait for police.

When they got to the apartment building on Donna Drive, officers and emergency personnel found 23-year-old Leroy Brown in the front hallway with a gunshot wound to the side of his head.

Police said Brown was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. The hospital had no information on him Monday morning.

Anamasi was cooperating with investigators.
