A Colchester man pleaded guilty Wednesday in New London Superior Court to possession of child pornography.
John Shumski, 50, of 31 Hickory Road pleaded guilty to third-degree possession of child pornography. He will be sentenced Oct. 15 to five years in prison, suspended after two years served, and 10 years probation with the right to argue for a lesser sentence. He will also have to register as a sexual offender.
According to state police, Shumski was one of 18 people arrested across the state in March during a computer crimes sweep into the possession and distribution of child pornography.
State police went to a home in Amston after an investigation uncovered that child pornography was being viewed there. The homeowner said they were out of town and Shumski was house-sitting.
Police went to Shumski’s home and uncovered in a computer more than 400 images of minors ages 12 years and younger engaged in sexual activity.
