State police have identified the 16-year-old victim of an accidental shooting Tuesday night in Killingly as Matthew Regula of 8 Ballouville Road, Killingly.
Regula was pronounced dead Tuesday night at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, where he was taken after troopers summoned to the shooting scene found him in an upstairs bedroom at 84 Kenneth Drive, Killingly.
An autopsy conducted today by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Regula died of a gunshot wound to the head and neck.
State police said their investigation revealed that Kyle Carney, 22, of Killingly, was recklessly pointing a rifle in Regula’s direction when the gun discharged, striking Regula in the face.
Carney has been charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment and appeared in court Wednesday.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
