Manchester, N.H. — Waterford broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning and held on to beat host Manchester, New Hampshire, 3-2 Thursday in the championship game of the New England Babe Ruth baseball 15-year-old tournament at Gill Stadium.
Waterford, which finished the double-elimination tournament unbeaten, advances to the World Series at Longview, Wash. The tournament begins on August 21.
Dan Castelpoggi scored from third base on a one-out wild pitch in the sixth to give the District 6 champions a 3-2 lead. Justin Keating had a run-scoring single as Waterford scored twice in the first inning. Jake Gannon pitched a four-hitter for the victory, striking out three.
Waterford’s 13-year-old team will also play in the World Series. Their tournament is at Glen Allen, Va., beginning on August 16.
