Locals Help Stingrays Fare Well at Wesleyan

The Soundview Family YMCA Stingrays, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, recently competed at the Connecticut Swimming’s Age Group Championship meet at Wesleyan University. The Stingrays had 24 swimmers participating at the meet and placed 19th out of 48 teams

The following swimmers competed at the meet in David Alstott (Guilford) Mickey Adrizzone (East Haven), Daniela Bedoya (East Haven), Isabela Bedoya (East Haven), Laura Bedoya (East Haven), Brendan Connors (East Haven), Julia Dietz (Branford), Hethon Foster (East Haven), Ben Fox (North Haven), Caroline Genther (Madison), Finn Henry (Guilford), Melissa Juliano (Branford), Daniel Kamen (Guilford), Alek Karosas (Branford), Mia Leko (North Branford), Alex Mayo (Guilford), Dylan Merritt (Madison), Tyler Merritt (Madison), Vivian Mudry (Guilford), Beecher Porter (Madison), Daniel Shao (Branford), Stephanie Sullivan (Branford), and Eric Weidman (Guilford).

The Branford Stingrays were organized in 1972 and began their collaboration with Soundview Family YMCA in 2010. The program stresses stroke technique, starts, turns, and basic training, striving to improve its swimmers' physical skills and develop the self-confidence to set challenging personal goals, the self-discipline to persist in pursuing those goals, and an appreciation for the way they and their teammates can help each other attain their goals through teamwork and mutual support.
