Stonington - First Selectman Ed Haberek posted on possible gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Pelto's Facebook page last week that he has submitted a petition of signatures to help him get on the ballot for the November election.
"Stonington is with you," wrote Haberek.
Haberek's Aug. 6 posting was eliminated from Pelto's Facebook page on Monday.
Pelto, who heads the Education and Democrat party, is trying to collect 7,500 signatures needed to get on the ballot and run against Democrat incumbent Dannel Malloy and the Republican who wins today's primary.
Stonington Democratic Town Committee Chairman Ray Trebisacci said Monday that Haberek does not speak for the town committee, which he said will discuss its endorsement for governor at an upcoming meeting.
"Ed does what he feels he needs to do," said Trebisacci.
The Malloy campaign could not be reached for comment Monday.
Haberek did not respond to questions Monday about his support for Pelto and whether it he felt it could affect the town's relationship with the Malloy administration.
