2 people displaced, 2 cats perish in Norwich fire
Norwich — A fire at a mobile home Monday displaced its two residents and killed two cats, according to fire officials.
The fire was reported about 5:45 p.m. at 36 Nashua St. in the Pleasure Valley Mobile Park. Occum firefighters responded with aid from Baltic and Taftville departments.
The two people were not injured and were aided by the American Red Cross, according to Occum Deputy Fire Chief Bob LaChapelle.
LaChapelle said 18 firefighters from his department arrived quickly and were able to contain the blaze within minutes, but not before the fire severely damaged the home.
The home was condemned while the fire marshal’s office continues its investigation into the cause.
