Local roundup: Tigers beat Spikes in 12

Norwich — Steven Fuentes two-out RBI single in the 12th inning scored Derek Hill and gave the Connecticut Tigers a 2-1 win over the State College Spikes on Monday night in a New York-Penn League game played before 1,243 at Dodd Stadium.

Ben Verlander's RBI double scored Joseph Pankake for the Tigers (31-26) and Joe Jimenez pitched an inning of scoreless relief with two strikeouts to earn the win.

Robelys Reyes had two hits and scored for the Spikes (33-24).

• Hill, the Detroit Tigers 2014 first-round draft pick, has been added to the Connecticut Tigers roster. Hill, selected with the 23rd overall pick, was recently named the Tigers top prospect by MLB.com. He appeared in 27 games for the Gulf Coast League Tigers, collecting 22 hits, two home runs, and 11 RBI. Outfielder Ross Kivett, a New York-Penn League All-Star selection, has been promoted to the Class-A West Michigan Whitecaps.

• The New London High School football team will be holding a parent/student information night today in the lecture hall at the school starting at 6:30 p.m. Required paperwork will be available.
