High bacteria levels close two swimming areas

The swimming areas at Gay City State Park in Hebron and the East Beach at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme are closed due to high bacteria levels in water samples, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Wednesday.

All other swimming areas at state parks in the state, including the West Beach at Rocky Neck, remain open, DEEP said.

Gay City and East Beach at Rocky Neck will be resampled on Thursday. Results are expected on Friday, DEEP said.
