Linda Hall and Donna May will be celebrating their 25th and 20th years, respectively, of educating preschool-aged children in Chester, Deep River, and Essex at the CDE Co-operative Preschool, located on River Street in Deep River. Open since 1947, the pre-school's most recent change has extended its hours, offering a 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. program five days a week for three-, four-, and five-year-olds (the school previously closed at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
"Now more than ever, pre-school is an essential part of a child's educational development," said Hall, director and head teacher of CDE. "The new extended hours will allow us to work more on the implementation of the state of Connecticut's Early Learning and Developmental standards, which are in line with the Common Core Standards."
Through more than six decades, change has been the only constant.
"We are still here, still providing what kids need to be socially and educationally successful when they enter kindergarten. This is the best part of our job," said Hall. "We continuously change to ensure that we meet all our students' challenges."
CDE is a co-operative program, which encourages parent participation as a way of keeping tuition reasonable. For more information, call 860-526-3403 or visit www.cdekids.org.
