Longtime Windham High School coach Brian Crudden is one of nine who'll be inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame at its 38th annual ceremony on Nov. 20 at the Aqua Turf in Southington.
Crudden is entering his 27th season as the Whippets head football coach and had coached both the boys' track and wrestling programs. He has 526 total victories, including 371 in wrestling. He also led the wrestling team to seven CIAC state titles and the 1992 New England championship, the latter which only one other state team has accomplished (Danbury, 1990). The Whippets football team have two state runner-up finishes. He was the 1993 CHSCA Wrestling Coach of the Year and the 2011 Football Coach of the Year.
The other inductees are coaches Deborah Petruzello, Kathleen Mary Walling, Christy Hayes, William Mongovan, Marcello Petroccio, athletic directors Joseph Canzanella and Paul Mengold, legendary Naugatuck athlete Edmund W. Poscavage posthumously, and Hartford Courant reporter Tom Yantz.

• Mary Fluet won the women's championship flight at Pequot Golf Club in Stonington. Fluet had a two-round score of 194, two shots better than Holly Rood. Carol Cawley finished third and Elaine Robarge was fourth. Laurie Wolfley won the net flight title, beating Angie McLean by three shots. Shirley McFadden was third and Verna Pray was fourth.
H.S. fall sports
• Montville High School registration is Monday, Aug. 18 at the nurse's office from noon-5 p.m. All fall athletes must register and bring a signed parent permission form, which are available in the main office. Athletes must also bring a copy of a current (within the last 13 months) physical. Football conditioning begins Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m., all other sports begin Aug. 23.
