Local roundup: Tigers swept at Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - Chris Breen tripled and scored in the first game and had two doubles and two runs scored in the second game as the Staten Island Yankees swept the Connecticut Tigers on Wednesday night, 5-2 and 3-2, in a New York-Penn League doubleheader before 2,729 at Richmond County Ballpark.

Austin Aune hit a two-run double for the Yankees (29-29) and Matt Borens gave up two hits and two earned runs over three innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win in relief in the first game.

Steven Fuentes had two hits, including a two-run home run, for the Tigers (31-27).

Renzo Martini hit an RBI single and scored in the second game for Staten Island.

Tim Remes hit a solo home run and Joseph Pankake added an RBI single for Connecticut in the nightcap.

The scholarship fund was established in 1987 in memory of Christopher Potvin, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident on his way to school on the morning of Jan. 6, 1987. Now in its 28th year, the fund has distributed $405,000 to college-bound high school graduates in New London and Windham counties.
