MontvilleSuperintendent Brian Levesque anticipates that the district will have about $185,000 in unspent funds from the 2013-14 school year, and said he hopes the district may keep the unused funds in reserve for the 2014-15 school year.

The town allows for the district, with Town Council approval, to keep up to 1 percent of its annual budget in a non-lapsing account.

Funds from the account can be used for unanticipated expenses, according to Levesque.

Levesque said at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday that the exact amount of unexpended funds available will have to be confirmed following an annual audit.

He said after the meeting that the board will have to take a vote on returning the funds to the town, and at that point, the Town Council will have to vote on whether to place the funds in a non-lapsing account.
