A father and son from East Lyme are headed to prison for possession of child pornography.
Brian Faford, 25, and Donald Faford, 57, both of 47 Charter Oak Drive pleaded guilty Tuesday in New London Superior Court to third-degree possession of child pornography, a crime that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in prison.
Judge Hillary B. Strackbein will sentence them Oct. 15 to 10 years in prison, suspended after one year served, followed by 10 years of probation. Both will be required to register as sex offenders.
The Fafords were arrested in March during a statewide arrest warrant sweep for crimes committed prior to November 2010, when state police executed a search and seizure warrant at the Faford home. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a detective in the Computer Crimes and Electronic Evidence Laboratory conducted a routine search of peer-to-peer file sharing networks and found still and video images of child pornography being downloaded and shared from computers at the Faford home.
Both of the Fafords waived their rights and agreed to speak with Detective David Aresco while the home was being searched, according to the affidavit. Brian Faford admitted he had started looking at Internet pornography when he was 12 or 13 years old, and as he got older continued to look at pornography involving children that age, along with adult pornography.
Donald Faford told Aresco that he had found pornography on his son’s computer account and saved it to his own account. He said the images interested him and he began searching for more. He said he took the files to prove that his son was looking at them and never deleted them.
